The Spirit of a Place

This treasured monument and its estate are being restored as the sites of wellbeing, self-actualization, inspiration, and fulfillment they were always intended to be, in line with the French notion of savoir-vivre and the Aristotelian concept of eudaimonia.

A true rejuvenation and revitalization of la vie du château must, in our modern period, be borne of an authentic reconciliation of its heritage, identity, and particular character with the dynamic possibilities of the 21st century, as well as of the contemporary needs and lifestyles of participants in today’s global economy.

it is a project underway.

The revival of château de Lantenay is not a distant dream

In recent years, château de Lantenay has been but a passive presence. It is now entering a new chapter - one that respects its past while opening up wonderful opportunities for the future.

Our family is committed to restoring it with deep respect for its history, its essence, its heritage, and its environment, while fully integrating it into the life and know-how of our region.

This project is not limited to the château's walls - it also aims to support local artisans, producers, and talents, thereby celebrating the treasured resources and creativity of our Burgundy region.

Where We Are -

Timeline of the Revival.

A living estate - Coming in 2027, this timeless heritage, yours to explore. Lantenay will open as a private, immersive residence - rooted in its recognition as a heritage landmark and rare example of stereotomic mastery. From this foundation, our Living Heritage project will grow, offering guests behind-the-scenes restoration stories, moments of exchange, and encounters with Burgundy’s artisans.

Beyond

Why This Revival

Matters

Few places hold the rare harmony of nature, history, and human craft - unbroken by the passing of centuries. Château de Lantenay stands in such a setting, where the land remains untouched by intrusive modernity and the architecture speaks of an age when beauty, utility, and meaning were inseparable.

Preserving and enhancing such heritage is more than a gesture of memory: it is an act of confidence in a way of life that recognizes the benefits of depth over haste, singularity over uniformity. In our fast changing world, projects like this offer a living reminder that great wealth may lie in the beauty of landscapes, fine artistry, and the capacity to inspire.

Preserving this harmony of heritage, landscape, and craftsmanship safeguards a place, which hopefully will in turn inspire those who will walk here after us.

As Jules Verne wrote, « Tout ce qui est dans la limite du possible doit être et sera accompli. » - "Everything that lies within the limits of the possible must and will be accomplished." The revival of château de Lantenay is exactly such a work - ambitious, exacting, and certain to be brought to life.

From the beginning, the château’s revival has been built through

Because the story would not be complete without a few words about the fire

Like Pierre Paqueau (d. 1722), vigneron in Saint-Romain, and Alfred Lucien Pathiaux, who, turned from the vine in Ladoix-Serrigny to commerce as a butcher in the early 1890’s around when the Duché family was renovating château de Lantenay, our family’s lineage can be traced through patronyms scattered across the centuries and Burgundy’s ancestral wine villages.

fueling the dream . . .

Our family's journey to proposing “la vie du château” in the 21st century.

More recently, and in keeping with the spirit of our modern era, life paths across many regions of the world - each, against all probability, evoked by M. and Mme Duché during their 1893 renovation of the château - have recalled how deeply Lantenay’s destiny belongs to an open history. Growing up in the presence of some of the most beautiful ancient ruins - from Baalbek to Palmyra to Leptis Magna - instills an early and enduring sense of the importance of ‘old stones’ and of the way they shape those who care for them.

The kindness extended to us throughout many awe-inspiring journeys allowed us to experience the worlds of our hosts not as passing visitors, but as momentary residents - welcomed into their lives with generosity and trust.

These encounters represent a lifetime of genuine exchanges which, to us, remains the essence of hospitality - and it is the spirit we wish to carry forward here, in our own home of Burgundy.

Our approach is rooted in the same values once described by Henri Vincenot as the vrai Bourguignon: a deep attachment to the land as something living, the patience to work for the long view, a sense for beauty both rustic and refined, and the will to preserve heritage as a lived experience.

It is these considerations that fuel the revival of château de Lantenay today.
